ADM Show 2022

2022

The year 2022 has seen the world adapt to new ways of living & thinking as it emerges from the pandemic. ADM Show 2022: & Beyond presents the works of design and media graduates from the Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media, questioning the status quo and how society can be driven towards enacting new solutions conceived through creativity and beyond.

Drawing upon our vast experience in designing for the school, and this being its first major event held in the heart of the city since the start of the global pandemic, we set out to create a brand identity which supports this bold vision. Utilising typographic strategies through repetition, depth, layering and movement, we created a visually striking three-dimensional, super-scale identity that is constantly adapting and morphing into whatever space it is applied on across all print, digital, video and spatial mediums. The bold, intense nature of the black exemplifies the geometric beauty of the identity whilst set against the joyful and exuberant neon yellow and magenta, helping to establish an expressive and evocative visual personality for the show.

The key ethos of “& Beyond” is expanded to form pathways and huge environmental graphics within the exhibition space, directing visitors to the various venues on site. Through an innovative use of the brand colours as a tool to demarcate spaces, which in turn creates narrative windows, the colours paint the corridors and functions as containers for the two separate Design Art (yellow) and Media Art (magenta) pathways. This flexible and experiential approach also allowed us to create immersive experiences like a spectrum entryway that commands the front-of-house, as well as psychedelic stairways which links the two floors of the exhibition space. The result connects directly to the visual identity and also creates a sophisticated harmony for exhibition experience.

A full fledged digital experience was launched to accompany the physical exhibition. The landing page serves as a visual echo to the theme of “& Beyond”, drawing visitors in to the content pages, which were designed such that they formed a colour coding system for easy navigation. We also wanted to turn user preference into engagement by incorporating targeted filter modules as well as a 'Favourites' system, where users could generate shareable links from portfolios they found interesting.

ADM Alumni Show 2021

2021

The ADM Alumni Show is part of the School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University’s efforts to showcase alumni who have made waves in the creative industry, as well as to create an aspirational connection between the generations of graduates with the current students. Doubling up as curators for this year's show, we presented the theme, titled 'Creativity in the time of COVID-19', exploring how six alumni from Design Art & Media Art disciplines have responded to this unprecedented year through their creativity, and the works displayed at this showcase are a testament to that.

Participating alumni are Bao Songyu, Goh Wei Choon, Annette Lee, Pek Shun Ping, Marvin Tang and Denise Nicole Yap.

ADM Show 2020

2020

Each year, the NTU School of Art, Design and Media in Singapore organises the ADM Show, an exhibition that showcases the works of the graduating artist and designers from the BFA Media Art and Design Art programmes.

In a year where COVID-19 has rendered most physical experiences impossible, the show was inevitable cancelled in the midst of a nationwide lockdown. The challenge for us, was how do we design a solution to organise and showcase the wide-ranging work of 160 multi-disciplinary students whose practices span Digital Animation, Filmmaking, Photography, Visual Communication, Product Design, and Interactive Media? On top of that, how do we present their works to an important group of audience (leading creative industry experts and possible future employers) in an engaging way that has traditionally been showcased via a physical exhibition?

We conceived the notion of hybrid exhibition in two major components: the first ever ADM digital graduation show in the form of an interactive website and live streams coupled with the ADM Travelling Show, and a mailer package which contains all of the student works presented in various fashions according to what best-allowed viewers a unique experience regardless of the medium of choice.

The notion of bringing creativity to people was also a guiding principle for our design approach. To reflect the unprecedented situation, we created a bespoke digital font, one that morphed from the original typeface which meant for the cancelled physical exhibition as a reflection of the audacity and resilience of the graduating students as they pivot to a digital showcase instead. This concept is also reflected in the animated show branding.

The interactive website features an easy-to-access library of the graduating cohort’s final year projects and their CVs, sorted neatly across their area of disciplines. A nifty preview function brings up thumbnails of their works upon hovering over their names. A ‘Seen’ function auto tracks and tells users which works they have already browsed, reinforcing the show concept of ‘Unseen to Seen’. Furthermore, a bookmark function allows for later reference, especially useful for potential employers and collaborators.
